Hijabers wear cullottes, why not?

any hijabers said that they can not wear culottes, do not know how to mix and match culottes with their hijab, or are afraid of the trend altogether. It is because at first, culottes are just for non-hjabers and culottes are too short (under people’s knee normally). Fortunately, culottes are getting modified. Hijabers can wear it comfortably and they can move their body freely because sometimes wearing long skirt or gamis can not make some people free to move and walk.

Culottes are garments that look and hang like skirts but are, in fact, a pant. They first became popular during the reign of Henry III of France in the 1500s and later became convenient in the Victorian era, when women became more active and needed the freedom of pants but the look of a skirt.

Now in 2017, culottes become a must fashion item that people should have. We saw culottes all over the spring 2017 runways. From Tibi to Jil Sander to Hermes, designers showcased the comfortable pants in a variety of colors and patterns.

If you think that many hijabers can not wear a pant because a Hadith (HR. Ahmad no. 8309, 14: 61) mention that

 أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- لَعَنَ الرَّجُلَ يَلْبَسُ لُبْسَةَ الْمَرْأَةِ وَالْمَرْأَةَ تَلْبَسُ لُبْسَةَ الرَّجُلِ

“Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam cursed men who wear women's clothing, as well as women who wear men's clothes” 

However, Islam never wants to be a trouble for their followers, so there is also a Hadith (HR. Muslim no 2128) mention that you can still wear a pant as long as that pant is thick and not too tight to still cover up your body. So you do not look like you are naked

حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ سُهَيْلٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ "‏ صِنْفَانِ مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ لَمْ أَرَهُمَا قَوْمٌ مَعَهُمْ سِيَاطٌ كَأَذْنَابِ الْبَقَرِ يَضْرِبُونَ بِهَا النَّاسَ وَنِسَاءٌ كَاسِيَاتٌ عَارِيَاتٌ مُمِيلاَتٌ مَائِلاَتٌ رُءُوسُهُنَّ كَأَسْنِمَةِ الْبُخْتِ الْمَائِلَةِ لاَ يَدْخُلْنَ الْجَنَّةَ وَلاَ يَجِدْنَ رِيحَهَا وَإِنَّ رِيحَهَا لَيُوجَدُ مِنْ مَسِيرَةِ كَذَا وَكَذَا ‏"‏ ‏.‏

“Two are the types of the denizens of Hell whom I did not see: people having flogs like the tails of the ox with them and they would be beating people, and the women who would be dressed but appear to be naked, who would be inclined (to evil) and make their husbands incline towards it. Their heads would be like the humps of the bukht camel inclined to one side. They will not enter Paradise and they would not smell its odour whereas its odour would be smelt from such and such distance.”

Culotte is the best choice for this because culotte is different with any other pants and culotte is not tight, hijabers can still wear it without worrying their body. In addition, you also do not have to worry, if many people think that culottes can make you appear shorter because you can try to wear a monochromatic outfit. It will help you to create a long, lean line, making you appear taller.

There are several Indonesian artists who have already worn culottes. One of them is Zaskia Adya Mecca. She also makes her own brand and sell not only culottes, but also a lot of muslims things. Even Laudya Chintya Bella and Ayudia Bing Selamet who just decided to wear hijab this year also wear culottes to cover their body and still look stylish.

Besides, culottes can be worn in some occasions. For casual look, you can wear jeans culottes and for formal look, you can add a blouse or blazer to match it with your culottes.

If you are bored with plain culottes because it may reminds you of Pajamas pants, thanks to their oversized silhouette and often soft, casual fabrics or with anything that fits loose or baggy. However, culottes are offered in a variety of colors, fabrics, and shapes that can feel more dressy than any after-hours bottom ever would. You can choose culottes with special patterns like stripe, square, floral, or even batik.

            Culotte is really a thing that you have to decided to wear since it has a lot of benefits like it is not tight that suitable with the Hadith, it can be worn in some occasions, it offered in different kinds of colors and patterns, and there are several Indonesian artists who have already worn culottes and make them look stylish. So with culottes, you can still look not only stylish and up to date, but also comfortable to wear it with your hijab without even show off your body.
